Greek ports and vessel movements will be hit by a 24-hour strike today, as announced by General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE), which will affect vessel movements at all Greek ports and terminals, Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) reported.
The strike will be launched at 06:00 local time today and end at 06:00 tomorrow.
During the stoppage period, vessels will not be able to berth, shift or sail from ports or terminals.
GSEE said that the strike is a response to the government’s planned changes to labour and insurance rights, pensions and retirement ages, as well as the privatisation of the country’s main ports, namely the Port of Thessaloniki and Piraeus Port.
The Crew Union of Towage Companies in Greece held a strike in October protesting against the planned ports privatization proposed by the Greek ruling party Syriza in September.
Another warning strike was held just a few days ago, on 2 November, when Greek ferry workers voiced their opposition to growing austerity measures, pension cuts, unemployment and ports privatization.
