Group wants election into CRFFN board before levy collection

Members of the Association of Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria (ASIMPIN), have asked the Federal Ministry of Transport to ensure election into the CRFFN governing board of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) begin the Council begins collection of the controversial professional operating fees (POF).

In a statement by the National Secretary of the group, Dom Obi, the group said, “The Federal Government should ensure an election is conducted into the office of the Governing Board of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) as soon as possible before the commencement of the fee collection.

“This would help the CRFFN not to allow the collection process to be a conduit pipe for corruption and an all-comer’s affairs thereby legitimising corruption in the industry.

“That after long deliberation on the issue, we, the stakeholders concluded that the idea of POF is good for all and sundry and would aid the operations of the council and various freight forwarding associations in the sector but should at the moment be suspended pending when an election is conducted into the Governing Board of the Council.”
