House Marine Transport Committee Chairman, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyo elected Enugu Governor

The Peoples Democratic Part (PDP) candidate in the April 11 governorship election Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has won with 482,277 votes against his main challenger of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Okey Ezea who polled a mere 43,839 votes.

Ugwuanyi is the current Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee of Marine Transport – a position he has held since 2007.

Returning officer of the election,Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State,Prof. Hillary Edoga, announced the result precisely on Sunday afternoon at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Enugu.

Wild jubilation trailed the result of the election as announced by INEC as residents made burn fire at strategic streets in Enugu metropolis.

Meanwhile, the APC candidate had while addressing newsmen in a briefing called for outright cancellation of the result.

He said, “It was nothing but a sham; it was marred by intimidation, harassment, ballot box snatching and physical injury.

“PDP imported more than 5000 thugs, especially in Nsukka area; result sheets were also not available, result sheets were sold before the election”.
