A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Igbokwe has been elected President of the Nigerian Maritime Law Association (NMLA), following the association’s 16th Annual General Meeting held on Saturday, 15 November 2025.
Igbokwe will lead a newly constituted Executive Committee tasked with steering the NMLA into its next phase of advancing maritime law and practice in Nigeria.
He is joined by Professor Adewale Adedamola Olawoyin, who was elected First Vice-President, and Dr Emeka Akabogu, SAN, who emerged as Second Vice-President.
Also elected were Nneka Obianyor as Honorary Secretary, ’Nonso Azih as Assistant Secretary, Chief Omolola Ikwuagwu as Treasurer, Kashimana Tsumba as Financial Secretary, and Mojisola Jaiye-Gbenle as Publicity Secretary.
Members of the association congratulated the new leadership team, expressing confidence in its competence and dedication, and wishing it “smooth sailing” as it guides the NMLA towards strengthening maritime legal practice in Nigeria.
The NMLA, an affiliate of the Comité Maritime International (CMI), serves as a professional body committed to the unification, development, and improvement of maritime law and its administration in the country.
