Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) western zone, Ahaji Ahmed Debo has decried the nefarious activities of pipeline vandals in the zone.
While speaking with newsmen in Lagos yesterday, Debo he said incessant pipeline vandalism posed danger to the country’s economic well being.
He urged security agents to live up to their duties by ensuring that the activities of these vandals are brought to an end.
He said that they should also ensure that the culprits are adequately dealt with according to the law.
“We at the western zone are ready to lend helping hand to security agents to bring pipeline vandalism to a halt.
“We have also contributed financially and morally to effective surveillance of the pipelines that pass through the zone, especially, the stem 2B axis.
“We have adopted a system that does not encourage vandalism. If you ask security agents patrolling around our waterways, they can attest to this,” Debo said.
He stressed the need for security agents saddled with the responsibility of protecting the pipelines to have close rapport with traditional rulers in the communities where the pipelines pass through.
