The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has said it was collaborating with Katsina State to fine tune strategies for the effective takeoff of the Inland Container Depot (ICD) otherwise known as Dry Port in Funtua as well as a Truck Transit Park project at Jibiya.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Hassan Bello made this known on Wednesday when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Aminu Bello Masari at the Katsina Government House.
Bello said the siting of the Inland Container Depot in Funtua was not accidental as the untapped tremendous agricultural export potentials of Katsina State was a natural attraction.
He said the ICD would provide stimulus to the economy of Katsina State and Nigeria at large.
According to him, “It is believed that with a world class facility to be put in place by the concessionaires, Katsina State will be the northern hub in export consolidation and logistics.
“In addition, proximity to the neighbouring landlocked Niger Republic is another factor for the success of the Funtua Dry Port.
“The multiplier effect of this project in boosting economic activities, employment, internally generated revenue to the people and government of Katsina State and its environs cannot be overemphasized.”
“The Truck Transit Park project is a modern, state of the art and common user facility designed to provide temporary rest location where truck drivers can conveniently park their vehicles off the highway in a healthy environment.”
In his remarks, Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, assured the Nigerian Shippers’ Council of his support even as he identified lack of functional railway system as one of the factors that may mar operations of the proposed Funtua Dry Port Project.
