The Libyan National Army (LNA) has bombed another tanker in the vicinity of the Benghazi Port, which according to the spokesperson for the LNA Chief of Staff attempted to deliver petrol to a radical Islamist group Ansar Al-Sharia, The Libya Herald reports.
Ansar Al-Sharia and associated forces are reportedly feeling the pressure of restrictions on the purchase of petrol in Benghazi, which for some time stops petrol stations from selling fuel in canisters to prevent it reaching the militant group.
LNA provided no further details on the origin of the ship, the extent of the damage or any injuries suffered by the ship’s crewmembers..
Libya Herald says that local residents reported plumes of smoke coming from the coast in the direction of the seaport, which is not completely controlled by either side.
Last week, a fighter plane controlled by LNA bombed the Greek tanker M/T Araevo moored in the port of Dema killing two and injuring two crewmembers.
Inchcape Shipping services reports that together with Benghazi, the Libyan ports of Zuietina, Ras Lanuf (Rasco), Ras Lanuf ‘Harouge’, and Es Sider have been closed due to armed clashes.
