LPG tanker disappears off Vietnam

An LPG tanker disappeared in the South China Sea after issuing a distress signal some 200 miles off Vietnam on Wednesday, according to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).

NGA is both a combat support agency under the United States Department of Defense and an intelligence agency of the United States Intelligence Community with the primary mission of collecting, analyzing, and distributing geospatial intelligence in support of U.S. national security.

The last AIS recorded on June 8 placed the 1991-built Teknogas in a position 12 37N 109 34E, some six nautical miles off the coast of Vietnam, the agency said.

The 4.239cbm LPG tanker was en route from Hai Phong, Vietnam to Indonesia’s Palembang when it disappeared.

NGA requested vessels in the vicinity to keep a lookout for the Malaysia-flagged tanker, and provide assistance if possible.

All information regarding the missing tanker should be reported to Singapore port operation control center, it said.

Teknogas is managed by Malaysia’s Silverline Maritime Sdn Bhd.
