Global shipping leader Maersk announced Tuesday that it has upheld all scheduled trans-Pacific sailings to date, even as U.S.-China trade tensions continue to create uncertainty in the shipping industry. While some vessels have been downsized, the company has not cancelled any crossings.
In contrast, German container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd revealed last week that 30% of its U.S.-bound shipments from China were cancelled by customers concerned about the escalating trade conflict between the world’s two largest economies.
However, Maersk said its customers are responding to the uncertainty in various ways.
“Some continue as planned, others redirect shipments to different markets, and some are choosing to delay shipments and store goods at origin, awaiting a potential resolution,” the company said in a statement.
