Maersk and the General Ports Authority of Saudi Arabia (Mawani) have inaugurated a state-of-the-art logistics facility at Jeddah Islamic Port, marking a significant milestone in the region’s logistics landscape.
The $250 million, 225,000 square metre facility is the largest single-site logistics and services hub in the Middle East.
The facility offers a comprehensive range of services, including multimodal connectivity, warehousing solutions, temperature-controlled storage, customs clearances, and distribution solutions. It is designed to cater to various industries, such as FMCG, automotive, retail, and pharmaceuticals.
Notably, the facility is powered by 32,000 solar panels, providing up to 70% of its electricity needs. Additionally, Maersk has established an in-house women’s academy to promote workforce diversity in the logistics sector.
The launch was attended by prominent figures, including the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, and Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc. They both emphasised the facility’s role in supporting economic growth, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and promoting sustainable logistics practices.
“The Maersk Logistics Park at Jeddah Islamic Port will contribute to service and development in supporting economic activity in the Kingdom and providing highly efficient logistics services to support the movement of trade and export to foreign markets and enhance the work of supply chains and logistics,” Al-Jasser said.
“The Maersk Logistics Park represents a significant milestone for Maersk. It is a testament to our commitment to be an enabler of global trade in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which sits strategically at the crossroads of three continents. I am proud to see that our Logistics Park in Jeddah has become a living example of our integrated logistics strategy, supporting our customers with resilient logistics while implementing the right initiatives to take our decarbonisation journey forward,” Clerc said.
