A 37-year-old man, Uchenna Opara, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s for allegedly assaulting three members of neighbourhood safety corps in Apapa.
Opera is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy and assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 16, 2019 at about 5:30pm at Alaba Suru/Layeni Market, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired with others at large to assault one Bello Sulaiman, a member of neighbourhood safety corps attached to Ifelodun Local Council Development Area by giving him fist blows all over his body.
“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Adigun Kudus, a member of neighbourhood safety corps attached to Ifelodun Local Council Development Area by stabbing him on his neck with a broken bottle which caused him bodily pains.
“Also, the defendant maliciously tore the uniform of one Yusuf Lukeman, a member of neighbourhood safety corps attached to Ifelodun Local Council Development Area,” Bassey said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 170, 173 and 339(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.
Magistrate M.B Amore granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till October 14, 2019 for mention.
