A 27-year-old man, identified as Alade Mustapha, has been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police inspector, Yakubu Karimu at Apapa in Lagos.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 20, 2018 at about 10am at Sahara Oil Company located along Ijora Olopa Road, Apapa.
Inedu said the defendant assaulted one Inspector Yakubu Karimu attached to Mopol, 2 Keffi Street, Obalende, Lagos by using an iron pipe to hit his chest and leg which caused him bodily harm while performing his lawful duty.
He added that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 411, 168(b) and 174 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge bothering on conspiracy, breach of peace and assault.
In his ruling, Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.
He adjourned the case till March 28, 2018 for mention.
