A 30-year-old man, identified as Stephen Osilama was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer at Apapa.
Osilama is facing a one-count charge bordering on assault.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyabosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 28, 2018 at about 9am at Okoduwa Street, Kirikiri, Apapa.
“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Inspector Obiriki Ejemuvo attached to Kirikiri Division by holding and dragging him on uniform while discharging his lawful duty,” Onaiwu said.
According to her, the offence is punishable under section 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate O. S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one responsible surety.
The surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till September 19, 2018 for mention.
