Man gets N50,000 bail for stealing N20,000 phone

An 18-year-old man, David Dickson, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing one phone worth N20,000 at Ajegunle, Apapa.

Dickson is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 22, 2020 at Oregie Street by Magistrate Court, Ajegunle, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal a blue bold phone valued at N20,000 property of one Sunday Funmilayo,” Babatope said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate G.O Tiamiyu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till March 12, 2020 for mention.
