A 23-year-old man, identified as Sheriff Ajala, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly using broken bottle to stab one motorboy and stealing his phone and money.
Ajala is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyabosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 2, 2019 at about 12:15am at Railway Line, Ijora-Badia, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal one Lenovo mobile phone valued at N15,000 with the sum of N8,000 property of one Musa Mohammed,” Onaiwu said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant assaulted Mohammed by using broken bottle to stab him on his fingers.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 412, 287(a) and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
In his ruling, Magistrate O.S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till January 21, 2019 for mention.
