A 35-year-old man, identified as Sunday Ugota, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N2.7 million under the pretence to sell a truck body.
Ugota is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 3, 2019 at Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired with others at large to fraudulently obtain the sum of N2.7 million from one Okere Chibuike Christian on the pretence that he would sell truck body to him (Christian), a representation that he knew to be false,” Ekundayo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the sum of N2.7 million property of one Chibuike Christian.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Chief Magistrate, Mukaila Fadeyi, granted him N250,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till September 4, 2019 for mention.
