A 48-year-old Customs agent, Jonathan Nanjul Wuyep, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N13,200,000 for the supply of pharmaceutical products at Apapa.
Wuyep is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 23, 2019 at Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to obtain the sum of N13,200,000 from one Samuel Yakubu under the pretence that he will supply him pharmaceutical products, a representation he knew to be false,” Aigbokhan said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314(1)(b) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must own property worth above the amount they stood for and furnish the court with three years tax payment not less than N30,000 to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till June 11, 2019 for mention.
