Man steals dock worker’s phone, transfers N254,000

A 22-year-old man, identified as John Wajina, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a mobile phone belonging to a dock worker and transferring N254,000 from the phone.

Wajina is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 5,2018 at about 4pm at Ijora railway line, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal an Itel mobile phone valued at N3,000 which he used in transferring the sum of N254,000 property of one Mr. Adeniran Musibau,” Obongha said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate, K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N80,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

One of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.

She adjourned the case till December 6, 2018 for mention.
