A 28-year-old man, identified as Kabiru Audu, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing vessel shaft and propeller worth N2 million at Kirikiri.
Audu is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, willful damage and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 15, 2018 at about 10am at Navy Campsite, Kirikiri, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal vessel shaft and propeller valued at N2 million property of Greenspeed Ocean Lines Limited,” Perezi said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant willfully damaged the vessel shaft and propeller by cutting it into pieces.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate O.A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. She ordered that N20,000 be paid into the Chief Registrar’s account and adjourned the matter till January 16, 2019 for mention.
