Man steals N50,000 for supply of petroleum products

A 32-year-old man, Nnaemeka Otiofor, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N50,000 for the supply of petroleum products.

Otiofor is facing a two-count charge bordering on false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Ogbongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 22, 2019 at about 12pm at Otto Wharf, Mile 2, Apapa.

“The defendant obtained the sum of N50,000 from one Miracle Odina Okechukwu under the pretence of supplying him petroleum products,” Obongha said.

He said the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 280 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate F.A Shittabey granted the defendant bail in the sum of N70,000 with one surety.

The surety is to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till May 9, 2019 for mention.
