Woman steals Golf car from importer

Apapa-Magistrate’s-Court

A 38-year-old female clearing agent, Blessing Obiesie, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing one Golf 4 car valued at N850,000 at Tin-Can Island, Apapa.

Obiesie is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, false pretense and stealing.

The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 14, 2018 at about 10am at Tin-Can Island, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with one other at large to falsely represent herself as a customs license agent and stole one Golf 4 car valued at N850,000 property of one Richard Ofonedu on transit,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 409, 316 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her on the grounds that she used her personal money to clear the car.

The complainant told the court he would want the defendant to give him his car.

In her ruling, Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one reliable surety who must be a blood relation of the defendant.

She adjourned the case till December 7, 2018 for mention.
