The Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN), has inaugurated its newly elected executives to pilot the affairs of the association for the next three years.
The inauguration which was held at Rockview hotel Apapa Lagos was graced by stakeholders in the maritime industry including the representative of the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdulahi; Port Manager Lagos Port Complex, Apapa, Mr. Nasir Anas Mohammed; Customs Area Controller, Apapa Area Command, Compt. Charles Edike; Founder of the National Association of Government Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF)?, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam among others.
Newly elected President of the association, Ify Obi called on the Federal Government to put an end to the economic recession in Nigeria by developing and utilizing the enormous potentials of the maritime sector.
Obi noted that in the face of the current dwindling revenue due to the drop in the global price of crude oil, the Nigerian government should focus it’s attention on developing the maritime sector which, according to her, can yield more revenue than the oil and gas sector.
The MARAN President also charged the government to fix decaying facilities in around the ports, especially the port access roads.
The first female MARAN President assured that under her watch, the association will not deviate from its vision of objective and professional journalism practice, even as she declared the association’s readiness to work with industry stakeholders.
Other elected executives of the association include FunshoOlojo of Hallmark Newspaper who will serve as Vice President; John Obot of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) as General Secretary; ObiajuluAgu of Maritime Matters Online as Assistant Secretary and KemiDauda of The Nation Newspapers as Treasurer.Others are Mrs Aisha Cole of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Financial Secretary and Mr. Gboyega Oni, Internal Auditor/PRO.
The MARAN inauguration ceremony was chaired by the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Barrister Hassan Bello, represented by the Director of Corporate Planning and Research of the Council, Mr. Godian Ihuoma.
