The event will hold between 6th and 12th December 2013 at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers in Lagos.
Already, heads of corporate organisations, paratatals and agencies, former ministers, individuals, association leaders and a host of others whose impact had been greatly felt in the maritime sector in the past 25 years have promised to grace the occasion.
The President of the association, Mr. Bolaji Akinola said MARAN had contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Nigerian maritime industry.
According to him: “25 years is a milestone in the life of an institution. So apart from celebrating our modest contribution as the watchdog of the maritime domain, we want to take stock and quantify the extent of our journey so far. We also want to identify those who have made it possible for us to have come this far.”
The president explained that the event was being targeted at drawing the attention of the Federal Government on the need to further exploit and harness the potentials in the maritime sector.
He remarked that the event was coming at a time when the demand for our oil is falling drastically due to a possible shift of some oil purchasing nations from use of oil to other things as veritable sources of energy.
Akinola stressed that part of the programmes preceding the celebration would include visitation to motherless homes, novelty football march to entertain friends and well-wishers of MARAN and a thanksgiving service to be held both in a church and a mosque respectively.
The president noted that at 25, the Association ought not have its secretariat in a rented apartment but should have risen to a status of a landlord.
“In that that vein therefore, we expect that after our 25th anniversary we will be able to commence erecting a permanent secretariat for MARAN where we can call our own.”
He implored past presidents of the association, friends and well-wishers who have been around since 1988 to send in their nominations for recognition of those that actually made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the maritime sector within the period.
