Maritime University, Okerenkoko gets pioneer VC

President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed Professor Ongoebi Maureen Otebu as the Vice Chancellor of the newly approved Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State.

 

The Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, National Universities Commission (NUC), Ibrahim Usman Yakasai, announced the appointment in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.

 

Otebu is a professor of Mechanical Engineering and was with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) before her appointment.

 

The university also got a Registrar in the person of Anho Nathaniel Esoghene.

Recall that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) last week approved the establishment of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State.

 

This was during the council’s meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.

 

The Minister of Information, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, made this known while briefing newsmen after the meeting.

 

According to her, “The meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) was presided over by President Jonathan with the Vice President Namadi Sambo and most ministers in attendance.

“In the meeting, there was a ratification of approval of a provisional license for the establishment of Nigerian Maritime University at Okerenkoko in Delta State,” Akwashiki said.
