Project Coordinator (Maritime Affiliate) at the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), Marie Annica has paid a working visit to the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN).
This was made known in a statement by the Head of Media, Kennedy Ikemefuna.
During the visit to the union’s secretariat in Olodi Apapa, Lagos this week, the President General of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju commended Annica for the visit to Nigeria, which is her first since assuming office.
He said MWUN in embarking on a MAS project, which he said is very important to the lives of the Nigerian seafarers.
The project, according to him, also allows for increased membership for the union to achieve a better negotiation on Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with employees of labour in the Nigerian maritime industry.
He said the project also puts the country’s seafarers as the highest paid globally while making sure they get their certificate of competence seamlessly from NIMASA.
In her response, the ITF project coordinator commended the leadership of MWUN for their passion for the welfare of workers and for inspiring women inclusiveness in the union.
She promised to report the “huge progress” made by the union as regards the MAS project and promised to return to Nigeria towards making sure that the project achieves the desired outcome.
