Messina Line withdraws RORO service to Nigeria

Messina Line said it has not withdrawn from Nigeria but only shut a part of its services in the country.

Agents to the shipping line, Bollore confirmed in an email sent to SHIPS &PORTS DAILY yesterday that while the company still operates in the country, it has shut down its roro operation.

“Please be corrected. Messina has not withdrawn from Nigeria, – they have closed down their RORO service, – last year – but still maintain a biweekly container service together with Cosco from the Med to Tincan. Messina is represented by Cross Marine Services (part of Bollore) and doesn’t share the agency with MOL,” Deputy General Manager Shipping Division, Bolloré Africa Logistics, Stefan Pedersen stated in an email he sent to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY.

Messina Line stated on its website yesterday that it has a fleet which “consists presently of 8 own ships, plus some others on charter, all specialized ro-ro container vessels”.

It also stated that its container fleet covers over 65,000 TEU. “Main equipment and facilities of Messina Terminal in Genoa are 7 portainers, 4 transtainers, 63 fork-lifts upto 45 tons capacity, 23 truck-tractors, 59 semitrailers and 20’/40′ mafi roll trailers, 1 railway tractor and 77 wagons,” it stated.
