The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ikeja, Lagos, said its officers seized sea cucumbers, donkey genitals, tramadol and other contraband items worth N5.8 billion at the airport.

Sea cucumbers are marine animals with a leathery skin and an elongated body. They are found on the sea floor worldwide.

The command’s Customs Area Controller, Muhammed Yusuf, who briefed newsmen on Monday, also said that the command generated the sum of N45.2 billion in the first quarter of the year. He said the amount is 111.7 percent higher than the amount generated in the first quarter of 2023.

He also said that the command recorded an increase in its anti- smuggling drive, which led to the interception of 50 pieces of live ammunition.

He said that the command engaged stakeholders through an open door policy, which assisted in surpassing its revenue target for the quarter.
