For the fifth time in a row, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF Electoral Committee (NECOM) has postponed the Seme Chapter election of the association.
The election originally scheduled to hold on Wednesday, was postponed by the chairman of the electoral committee, Okey Nerus to Thursday next week.
The reason for postponement was however not known as at press time but it may not be unconnected with disagreements that arose during the build up to the election when one of the candidates, Eze Ekene Ajunwa raised alarm of suspected foul play by some power brokers at the association’s national headquarter. Ajunwa had alleged that there were plans to impose a non-member of the chapter, on Chris Agbawodikeizu on the electorate.
Ajunwa who is the immediate past chairman of the Seme chapter said: “I can see some move that make me feel threatened though I am still watching because someone who practice at Tin Can or Apapa should not be allowed to vote. The person contesting against me is not a member of NAGAFF Seme chapter. His name is not in the register and he has never participated in our meeting at Seme.
“If you open our minute book, you will see that his name is not there. Not that you will as a member jump from one chapter to the other, you are to follow the rules of engagement when changing from one chapter to the other but that laid down rules (sic) has not been met.
“If you want to transfer your membership from one chapter to the other, you write to your chairman who will write to the national headquarters and the national headquarters will send your letter to the new chapter for proper induction but in the case of Chris Agbawodikeizu it has not been done.
However, when contacted for his comments on the allegations levelled against him by Ajunwa, Agbawodikeizu said he had “no comment for now”.
Also speaking to journalists, the Interim Chairman of the chapter, Sam Akgogu said he was not getting needed cooperation from the headquarters for a smooth transition.
“I don’t get the best of cooperation from Apapa because they want to import machinery voters but if they want to do that I may be forced to resign. There are criteria to be met part of which was to register with the Chairman – me – which they have not done, so I will tender my resignation if they want to impose candidate or voters on me,” he stated.
