Covering a total distance of 22,614 nautical miles, the Nigerian Naval warship, NNS Thunder, has returned to Lagos after participating in the International Fleet Review in Sydney after four months and 10 days of which 1,834 hours were spent underway.
In a statement from the Naval Headquarters yesterday in Abuja, the Director of Information, Kabiru Aliyu, said the ship, named NNS Thunder, successfully took part in the multinational exercise before returning.
“During her outbound journey to Australia, NNS Thunder made port calls at Luanda in Angola, Cape Town in South Africa, Port Louis in Mauritius, Freemantle, Jervis Bay and Sydney,” the statement said.
NNS Thunder departed Nigeria on August 8, 2013, to participate in the Royal Australian Navy’s International Fleet Review, which took place from October November 3, 2013 and featured participating ships from 17 countries from different parts of the world.
“It is pertinent to note that NNS Thunder was the only naval ship from Africa that participated in the International Fleet Review”, the statement noted.
