As part of efforts in ensuring that its newly developed Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) regime succeeds, top management staff of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) yesterday met with stakeholders at the Port and Terminal Multi Services Limited (PTML) Area Command .
The NCS management team had on Tuesday visited the Apapa and Tin Can Island Port where they met with officers and stakeholders operating at both commands to discuss the challenges they face transiting to the new e-clearance system.
It was gathered that a team of six Assistants Comptroller General (ACGs) were sent by the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Inde Abdulahi, to major ports in Lagos to monitor the effectiveness and address some of the challenges occasioned by the take off of PAAR.
Controller in charge of the Destination Inspection (DI) Transition, Austen Warikoru, had disclosed at a stakeholders meeting in Lagos last Thursday that over 99,000 unprocessed Risk Assessment Report (RAR) were handed over to Customs by the three service provider firms thereby slowing down the issuance of new PAAR.
Speaking with SHIPS & PORTS DAILY, Public Relations officer of the PTML command, Steve Okonmah, confirmed that the visit of the ACGs led by Assistant Comptroller General, Headquarters, Tahir Musa was a continuation of the sensitization tour embarked upon since the service took over DI scheme, to monitor the performance of the newly launched PAAR and to ensure compliance on the parts of agents.
He said the delegation had meetings with both officers and stakeholders of the command.
