Navy arrests vessel loaded with 800,000 litres of diesel

The troops of the Central Naval Command, with headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, have arrested a barge laden with 800 tonnes of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel).

The Flag Officer Commanding, CNC, Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman, made this known in a statement by the command’s spokesman, Lt. Commander Edward Yeibo on Tuesday.

Suleiman said the barge was arrested by the patrol team of the Forward Operating Base, Formosa in Egweama area of Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

He said the arrested barge christened, ‘MV NEW VICTORY 1’ was loaded with 800 metric tonnes (approximately 800,000) of illegally refined diesel at Odekiri creek around Santa-Brabra river last Thursday.

The FOC said the arrest was made possible following a coordinated intelligence by the Nigerian Navy.

Suleiman reiterated that the Navy would continue to arrest vessels involved in maritime crimes in the Central Naval Command area of responsibility.
