The Nigerian Navy said it recovered over 200 bags of cannabis weighing 10,000kg in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
An official said the recovery was made possible through the Navy’s Falcon Eye, a maritime awareness domain facility technology.
Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft, Kolawole Oguntuga, who disclosed this to newsmen during a media conference in Apapa, said the interception took place on July 3, 2023.
“On this day, the Falcon Eye was able to detect the activity of criminals transferring bags of cannabis from boats to land. As soon as we realised it, the patrol teams, both on water and land, swiftly swung into action to ensure that the criminals did not escape. On sighting our men, they fled and we were able to confiscate the consignment of over 200 bags.
“We are going to make sure due process is done by handing over the illegal substance to the appropriate agency. We will also ensure that it is handled appropriately with the standard procedure,” Oguntuga said.
