NDLEA arrests 2 suspected drug traffickers at MAKIA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) Command, Kano, has arrested two suspected drug traffickers with 2.7kg of cocaine.

The NDLEA Commander, MAKIA, Ambrose Umoru, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Kano yesterday.

Umoru said the suspects were apprehended on May 5, during a routine inward screening of passengers of an Ethiopian Airline flight number ET 911 from Nairobi, Kenya, enroute Addis Ababa and to Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.

He said one of the suspects, David Ikechukwu, 32-year-old, who hails from Orlu in Imo state, was arrested with 60 ingested wraps of cocaine weighing 1.250kg.

According to him, the other suspect, Patrick Otaka, aged 48, an indigene of Abriba in Abia state, excreted 72 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.450kg.

Ambrose added that the two suspects had separately boarded Ethiopian Airline flight in Nairobi and headed to deliver the drugs in Nigeria.

“The suspects planned to traffic in drugs so as to raise money to revitalise their families and crashing businesses.

“However, luck run out of them as the collaboration with our narcotics International Intelligence Network yielded the desired result,” he said.

He said when the suspects were subjected to body scanner, it was discovered that they indigested a total of 132 wraps of substance suspected to be cocaine.

“The command will not fold its arms and allow a situation where MAKIA will be used as a gateway for import or export of illegal drugs and other incriminating items,” Umoru warned.
