All passengers are accounted for after their Indonesia-registered ferry Sea Prince hit a floating object off Batam on Sunday.
Batam is a small island in Indonesia’s Riau Archipelago in the South China Sea. It is a short boat ride from Singapore; and is a free trade zone with multiple busy ports, known for its beaches, raucous nightlife and malls offering duty-free shopping.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the incident occurred in the evening hours in Indonesian waters after the ferry left the Nongsapura ferry terminal for Singapore.
At the time of the incident the ferry was carrying a total of 97 passengers, including 51 Singaporeans and seven crewmembers.
Sea Prince’s operator, Batamfast, activated two ferries to transfer the passengers from the stranded ferry to the Nongsapura ferry terminal.
MPA confirmed that the ferry is in stable condition.
