New Port Police Commissioner tours Apapa Port, tasks officers on conduct

Newly appointed police commissioner in charge of Western Port, Apapa, Ambrose Aisabor, has pledged to deal with any police officer involved in acts of indiscipline or corrupt practices at the port.
The commissioner stated this yesterday during a familiarization tour of the Lagos Port Complex (LPC), Apapa.
Aisabor said members of the public do not accord the police respect as they do other agencies because of what he called ‘incivility’ of policemen.
“Why do you think people don’t like police? It is because of the way we behave. We are not polite, we very rude, we have no respect for members of the public,” he said.

Aisabor said he would not condone any form of lawlessness including cases of misuse of firearm by any policeman adding that careless on the part of ‘trigger happy’ police officers who often times shot indiscriminately has led to untimely death of some members of the public.
“You have to be very careful in handling your weapon and not showing regret when you are charged to court for misusing your arm,” he told policemen and officers at the nation’s premiere port.
He admonished the officers to continue to protect their sources of information as they carry out their constitutional mandate of securing lives and property.
The Commissioner who also visited the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) Western Port and other places within the port community solicited the support of other agencies in achieving a safe port environment.
