Serving notice that a new sheriff is in town, the newly-appointed Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Command (PAPC), Mrs. Sheriffat Disu Olajoku, has warned deviants in her constituency of her abhorence of improper conduct.
Olajoku gave the warning yesterday in the course of a working visit to the Lagos Ports Complex (LPC), Apapa, Lagos, as part of her familiarisation tour of the formations under her command.
While addressing personnel of the PAPC serving at the Western Ports Area Command Headquarters and the Apapa Port Division, Olajoku warned that the PAPC would no longer tolerate indiscipline, noting that any person caught in any act of indiscipline would face the full wrath of the law.
“We have observed that most officers have deployed themselves to traffic, leaving very few at the general duty post; and I can assure you that that must stop,” the PAPC Commissioner said.
She was particularly miffed at the shabby dressing mode of some PAPC personnel, which she warned was not acceptable.
She advised them to abide by the code of conduct introduced by the Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar, warning that any officer caught misbehaving would be doing so at personnel risk.
The Commissioner of Police had also warned stakeholders that the PAPC wil neither tolerate miscreants around the ports, nor allow unauthorised persons access into the ports.
The command, according to her, would, henceforth, enforce strict access control to the various seaports, in order to protect the nation’s maritime infrastructure and also ensure security of lives and property.
“We will not fold our arms and allow unauthorised people convert the seaports to a market place, with the attendant negative security implications,” Olajoku said.
Also speaking, the Area Commander, Western Ports, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, assured the PAPC boss that the personnel at the command would be of good behaviour.
Abdullahi pledged support and cooperation with Olajoku to enable her succeed in her new position.
The PAPC chief and her entourage are billed to visit the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) International Maritime Press Centre, Apapa, Lagos today.
