Nigeria and the Republic of Benin have agreed to reactivate the joint patrol of the borderline between the two countries.
This was one of the contents of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the countries when the Nigerian Minister of Interior, Abdurahman Dambazau paid a visit to the country recently in continuation of his visit to neigbouring countries aimed at strengthening regional security partnership.
The two countries share some 778 Kilometer border between them.
The agreement is expected to deepen ties in order to advance trans-national security, check movement of small arms and light weapons, human trafficking, cyber crime and others.
The agreement which was signed on behalf of the two countries by the Nigerian Interior Minister and his Beninese counterpart, Placide Azande also include the establishment of a standing committee which will involve government and leaders of boundary communities to resolve conflict whenever they arise.
Among others, the two countries also agreed to intensify multinational collaboration on information and intelligence sharing.
