The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has opened an investigation into two viral videos that feature interactions between an officer and clearing agents at the Car Park C Terminal of the Tincan Island Port Area Command.
In the first video, the officer faces apparent embarrassment and hostility from the agents, while the second depicts the officer being received warmly by the same individuals.
In an official press statement, National Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Maiwada emphasised the NCS’s commitment to addressing the incidents with utmost seriousness.
He said the Customs Police Unit has been tasked with examining the videos, collecting statements from the officer involved, and consulting relevant stakeholders to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation.
He said under the leadership of Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS remains committed to transparency and accountability as stipulated in the NCS Act 2023, Section 30.
The statement stressed that any party found violating NCS regulations—whether agents, officers, or other individuals—will face appropriate sanctions to deter future incidents.
He quoted Adeniyi as assuring the public, stakeholders, and the business community that necessary actions will be taken based on the investigation’s findings.
He also urged all parties within the port community to conduct themselves responsibly, upholding respect and professionalism in their activities.
