Nigeria is losing an estimated sum of 10 billion United States Dollars (USD) annually from non-patronage of indigenous ship chandlers by foreign vessels in Nigeria.
The princely sum, according to the Secretary, Board of Trustees (BoT), Nigerian Licensed Ship Chandlers Association (NLSCA), Dr. Emeka Enebeli, is the total earnings that are lost by indigenous ship chandlers to their foreign counterparts, owing to the overwhelming discrimination against them by foreign vessel operators in Nigerian waters.
Enebeli painted this depressing scenario as a guest at the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) Round Table, which held yesterday at the Association’s International Maritime Press Centre, Atlantic House, Apapa, Lagos.
He lamented that he had personally lost the sum of $200,000 in two years, owing to this deplorable attitude of foreign vessel operators in Nigerian waters.
