Nigeria Police tracks gun-runners on land, sea

The Nigeria Police Force is determined to check trafficking of illicit arms on both land and sea.
The Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Frank Mba, indicated this on a radio programme monitored in Lagos.
Mba said that the Force has streamlined operational strategies to check criminal activities on the nation’s territorial waters, as has been done at the nation’s land borders.

“Recently, the Marine police in Badagry intercepted a boat and it carried a cache of arms, moving it from some other West African countries into Nigeria. The moment Nigeria Police tightened security at the land borders, we made it virtually impossible for illicit movement of arms through these borders. These criminals thought the waterways became the next option and that explains why we need to tighten security on our waterways,” Mba stated.
He said that, despite the dearth of necessary logistics, such as gunboats and other equipment, to fight this cause, the Force will make “maximum use of the resources and logistics at our disposal to provide optimum security service.”
