Claims by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) that it rescued officials of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and Navy personnel on board a tug boat, MT Bori is not true, according to the nation’s apex maritime regulatory body.
Deputy Director, Public Relations of NIMASA, Isichei Osamgbi, in a press statement sent to SHIPS& PORTS DAILY over the weekend said: “The attention of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has been drawn to a news report in The Nation newspaper of Thursday November 7, 2013 and other online publications with the headline, ‘NLNG rescue NIMASA men from drowning’, purporting that the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited rescued NIMASA officials and Navy personnel on board a tugboat, MT Bori.
“The report was not only false and misleading but obvious to any discerning mind that it was premeditated to embarrass the Agency. It is pertinent to state that MT Symphony registered by the Flag State Authority of Panama was illegally being towed by MT Bori when NIMASA was contacted to stop the operation, a request that was promptly granted.”
