A delegation of the Military, Police, Paramilitary Public Relations Officers Forum (MILPOPPROF) has solicited for the support of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in the training of its members.
Members of the forum are drawn from the public relations unit of all military and paramilitary agencies in the country including the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Leader of the delegation, a Chief Superintendent of Customs, Steve Okonmah who is also the Chief facilitator of the forum, made the appeal when he led the delegation on a courtesy visit to the President of NIPR, Rotimi Oladele in Lagos on Tuesday.
Okonmah who also doubles as the Public Relations Officer of the PTML command of the NCS said there is need for training and retraining of his members who cut across the country to perform their duty as public relations officer better.
Okonmah while thanking the NIPR president for finding time to interact with the public relations officers in security agencies unfolded new plans and strategies towards creating enhanced synergy amongst forum members, in addition to ensuring an improved cordiality in their interface with members of the public.
He also informed his host that already the public relations officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA has opted to join the forum.
He said, “The idea is to reduce the infraction between traffic managers and other paramilitary agencies. Also the public relations officer of the Vehicle Inspection Organisation (VIO) has agreed to join us in our next meeting.”
In his response, Oladele, expressed sincere appreciation for the MILPOPPROF delegation even as he assured the forum of the Institute’s support.
He expressed his willingness to partner with the forum in its noble objectives and endeavours towards boosting harmony and solid cooperation amongst all security agencies as well as other public organizations.
The NIPR chief advised the facilitator to use the forum as a platform for synergy and integration not only in the nation but also on the African sphere as a whole, especially on volatile security challenges confronting the region.
He enjoined all public relations officers of security agencies to bring their wealth of experiences to bear on their profession.
