The Nigeria Customs Service recently organized an inter agency public relations workshop aimed at boosting information management.
The three day capacity building conference with the theme Team work: Necessity and Mechanism was organized in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for all public relations officers of NCS and heads of public relations units of other security and regulatory agencies in the country.
The aimed to expand the frontier of public relations understanding and practice through shared experiences in the interest of the nation among the participants.
In his address, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi charged PR officials of the agencies to use the conference as an avenue to build strong networks.
Abdulahi, who was represented by Deputy Comptroller General in charge of Corporate and Support Services, John Atte, also urged image makers to provide the catalyst for synergy amongst security and regulatory agencies to contribute to the development of PR practice in Nigeria.
Also speaking, Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim, represented by Major General Henry Ayola in his goodwill message commended the management of NCS for initiating the programme.
He said the Drector of Defence Information had been directed to follow the cue by taking concrete steps to concretize the existing relationship between the Nigerian Armed Forces and all other security and regulatory service as well.
Highlights of the ceremony were the induction of 24 Customs Area Commands public relations officers as associate members of NIPR and the conferment of award on renowned public relations guru, Chief Alex Akinyele, who was first Public Relations Officer of the NCS and one time president of the NIPR.
Chief Akinyele in his remarks gave the recipe for success in PR practice as determination to succeed and courage to stand in the face of terrible challenges.
