NISA inaugurates NIMAREX 2015 planning committee

The Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA) has has inaugurated a new planning committee for 2015 edition of the annual Nigerian Maritime Expo (NIMAREX).

NIMAREX 2015 will be the 5th in the series of the event which made its debut in 2011.

The planning committee has Prince Ayo Adedoyin as Chairman and Barr. Osuala Nwagbara as Secretary. Adedoyin, who served as Vice Chairman of the 2014 Planning Committee, replaces Barr. Margaret Onyema-Orakwusi while Nwagbara takes over from Mr. Bolaji Akinola.

President, Nigeria Shipowners’ Association (NISA), Captain Niyi Labinjo, who inaugurated the committee in Apapa yesterday said the idea of NIMAREX is to bring together everyone involved in shipping to showcase their products and services to the world.

“The spirit and intendment of the founding fathers is to make the event to be an assemblage of shipping services providers, maritime and ancillary services providers, original equipment manufacturers, port operators, dockyards and repair yards at showcasing their wares and equipment.

“There is no better time than now to take stocks of the goods and services available locally and that can be provided by Nigerians,” he said.

While advising members of the planning committee to carefully chose the theme of the 2015 edition, Labinjo charged them to work hard to ensure that all those who need to be at the event are present.

“We want as many original equipment manufacturers that can be there to be there both locally and outside Nigeria. Last year, we had somebody from Dubai, Japan and I already have indication that there may be some people from China. So let us make all necessary contact to enable them attend this time,” he said.

In his address, Adedoyin pledged that the committee members would give their best towards hosting a successful event.

“We want to look at something that has to do with the law, how it affects ship ownership in Nigeria. We will also look at finance, how it affects ship ownership and get the government agencies to explain their plan for the industry.

“We don’t just want it to be an exhibition where we discuss and next year we come again. We want something that would be able to, even without the communiqué, people will see that they are able to network, close ranks and make business,” Adedoyin said.
