Many port users were barred from entering the Lagos Port Complex Apapa on Tuesday as the management of the port insisted on face masks before granting access to port workers and port users.
SHIPS & PORTS reported last week that Apapa Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service barred its personnel, clearing agents, and other stakeholders that have not received the COVID-19 vaccine from accessing its premises.
In this same vein, security officials manning the main gate to the nation’s largest seaport told SHIPS & PORTS on Tuesday that the port management had directed them to stop people without face masks from entering the port.
“They gave the order that we should not allow anybody without face mask entrance. We are told to uphold COVID-19 protocols. So if you are without a face mask, you’re not entering,” one of the port security officials on duty, Ayodele Muideen told SHIPS & PORTS.
The communication unit of the port did not respond to inquiry on the development.
