… Commend maritime sector investors
• NPA Western Ports boss, Sonaike, seeks stakeholders support for efficient services
Investors in the Nigerian maritime industry have been commended for boosting capacity building, creating employment and encouraging foreign direct investment in Nigeria.
Members of the Board of Directors of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) gave the commendation yesterday during familiarisation tours of the facilities of the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL), Niger Dock Plc, and Ports and Cargo Handling Services Limited, all located in Lagos
These investors, according to the NPA Board, deserve praise for their massive investments in the ports.
At LADOL, the Managing Director, Dr. Amy Jadesimi, told the NPA Board members that her company is the first 100 per cent greenfield deep offshore logistics base in Nigeria that is building specialised facilities with a view to ensuring technology transfer to Nigeria.
At the Niger Dock, the Chairman, Mr. Anwar Jamarkani, who conducted the visitors round its facilities, disclosed that the organisation’s Snake Island Free Zone location generates its electricity and has vast quayside for ship repair, maintenance and a 5,000-ton capacity dry floating dock.
Jamarkani thanked the NPA and the Federal Government for providing an enabling environment for foreign investors.
The Managing Director of Ports and Cargo Handling Services Limited, Mr. John Jenkins, conducted the visitors round the company’s facilities at the Tin-Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC).
Expressing happiness on the excellent relationship between the NPA and his company, Jenkins urged the Authority to look into the issue of access road to the port.
Members of the NPA Board on the tour party included Senators Florence Ita-Giwa and Lekan Mustapha; Executive Director, Marine and Operations, NPA, Engr. David Omonibeke; and Board Secretary/Legal Adviser, NPA, Mrs. Obiageli Anubi.
The NPA Management was represented by General Manager, Western Ports, NPA, Ms. Adenike Sonaike, and other top officials.
Meanwhile, the General Manager, NPA Western Ports, recently embarked on an extensive familiarisation tour of facilities under the Western Ports, comprising: Lagos Port Complex (LPC) and Tin-Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC).
Sonaike was accompanied by Messrs Nasir Anas Mohammed and B.E Longe, Port Managers, respectively, for the LPC and the TCIPC, as well as the Western Ports Management team.
The tour was aimed at having an on-the-spot assessment of facilities and operations at the various locations, as well as fashion out ways of improving on the existing ones.
The first leg of the eight-day tour took Sonaike and her team to tank farms and terminals within the TCIPC axis.
The NPA offices and facilities at the TCIPC were also visited and assessed.
The second leg of the tour took the team to the LPC and all the facilities under its supervision.
The terminals visited were AP Moller Apapa Limited, Greenview Development Nigeria Limited (GDNL), Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited (ABTL), ENL Consortium Limiited and Lilypond Container Depot.
The logistics bases visited were Eko Support Services, and Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL). The team also visited the various tank farms, and NPA offices and facilities, as well as the Atlas Cove Jetty, Single Buoy Mooring and the Commodore Pool.
During the tour, Sonaike enjoined stakeholders, including the NPA staff, to ensure that they put in their best on the job to deliver efficient ports services in a safe, secure and customer-friendly environment.
