The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mallam Habib Abdullahi, has reiterated the management’s commitment to harnessing the huge potentials and further improve the patronage of Delta Ports.
Abdullahi made this assertion in the course of his familiarisation and inspection tour of major infrastructural developments that are ongoing at the port.
The facility, according to him, is a port of the future and centre of attraction.
He explained that the ongoing developments are part of the efforts of NPA Management to position the port adequately in order to accommodate the expected increase in operational activities that will result from the planned dredging of Escravos Channel, channel marking, wreck removal campaign, acquisition of new craft and rehabilitation of the Escravos Moles.
While commending the cooperation and commitment of the Delta Ports Management for the great work, the NPA boss said that, among other things being done by the Management to rebuild the port, a channel management company is being deliberated to assist in dredging, removal of wrecks and maintenance of the channel.
He expressed confidence that the initiatives will attract more investors and terminal operators to the port. The Port Manager of Delta Ports, Mr Obumneme Onuenyenwa, while conducting the NPA Managing Director round some of the ongoing projects at the Old Warri Port expressed gratitude for the NPA Management’s support towards the activities of Warri Port.
In his presentation during a brief reception organiSed for the NPA Managing Director and his entourage at the Delta Ports Boardroom, the Port Manager underscored the huge revenue potentials of the port, adding that only 40 per cent of the entire port land has been developed.
He appealed to the NPA Management to address the challenge of encroachment of port land, in order to realise the full potentials of the port and thereby increase revenue generation.
Some ongoing developments in the port include the perimeter fencing of the port, and the rehabilitation of the quay walls.
Highlight of the NPA Managing Director’s visit to the ports in Delta was a courtesy call to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan.
The NPA Managing Director was accompanied on the tour by, among others, the General Manager, Eastern Ports; Mr Sunny Nwobi; the General Manager, Public Affairs; Capt. Iheanacho Ebubeogu; and General Manager, Physical Planning and Development, Arc. Dan Hassan.
