Abdullahi stated this last week when he received the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), Mr. Benjamin Dikki, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at the NPA headquarters in Marina, Lagos.
He said the port concession, midwife by the BPE in 2006, has not only brought about efficiency at the ports but has also curbed excessive bureaucracy enabled terminal operators improve the assets and facilities at the nation’s gateway.
The NPA boss also said that the depths of the port channels have been deepened and port operations greatly improved. He also said that private terminal operators at the ports have generated more employment opportunities to Nigerians even as he invited Dikki to visit the ports in order to appreciate the level of development over the past seven years.
Earlier, in his statement, Dikki commended the commitment of the NPA towards monitoring of the concession programme in a bid to ensuring that its objectives are met.
He said that as a technical regulator, NPA had done well.
He said that as soon as the Ports and Harbours bill is passed by the National Assembly, an economic regulator will emerge for the port industry.
NPA Executive Directive Finance and Administration, Olumide Oduntan; Special Assistant to the NPA Managing Director, Buhari Shamaki; and BPE Director, Post-Privatisation Monitoring, Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, were all present at the meeting between the two chief executives.
