NPA to provide weather equipment to NIMET

Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is to provide meteorological equipment to all pilotage districts within the organisation, to assist the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) in ensuring total coverage of the entire coastal areas of the country.
Managing Director of NPA, Mallam Habib Abdullahi disclosed this last week when he received the Director General of NIMET, Dr. Anthony C. Anuforom, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the organisation’s corporate headquarters at Marina, Lagos.
Abdullahi noted that in recent years, there has been technological improvement in weather forecast in the country especially in the aviation sector which he said should be replicated in the maritime industry.
He pointed out that provision of the meteorological equipment to NIMET is also in line with NPA’s corporate social responsibility having considered the agency’s activities as being of utmost importance to the operation of NPA.
Anuforom who was accompanied by some top officials of the agency said his visit was to re- emphasis the existing collaboration between NIMET and NPA.
He requested the setting up a committee with membership drawn from both government agencies to work out timelines and terms of references needed for effective collaborations.
Abdullahi immediately acceded the request of his visitor by announcing the NPA members of the committee as Captain Jerome Angyunwe, Assistant General Manager Harbours and Sam Nwigwe, Senior Manager (Radio).
The Committee is expected to develop strategies and modalities for the maintenance of facilities for uninterrupted provision of services as well as the benefits of the collaboration between the two agencies among other things.
