The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday in Lagos arraigned four men over alleged illegal distribution of petroleum products.
The accused – Owobobola Damilola, Roju Gbokan, Akinyemi Micheal and Ogbolo Godwin – are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful dealing in petroleum products at a Federal High Court.
The prosecutor, Alimat Owomunigbo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 8 at 1p.m. at Majidun near Ikorodu, Lagos.
She said the accused were arrested by NSCDC while carrying out the illegal business of distributing petroleum products.
She said the offences contravened Sections 1 (17) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Laws of the Federation 2004.
Owomunigbo urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending trial.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
Counsel to the accused, Ebunola Ogungbamila, however, urged the court to admit the accused to bail on liberal terms.
The judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case to Sept 24 for trial.
